The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Secretariat of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to boost cooperation on aviation facilitation and border security issues among their European member states.

As part of the deal, both parties will collaborate on several issues, such as harmonised passenger data exchange programmes and airport security.

The partnership will also share information, discuss policy issues and participate in each other's committees, as well as provide joint training and technical assistance.

With the collaboration, Austria-based OSCE will continue to implement United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2178 for foreign terrorist fighters, and Resolution 2309 for aviation security across its member states.

International Air Transport Association director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac said: "Aviation security is a top priority for IATA and its members.

"With passenger numbers set to double over the next 20 years, it is essential that the global aviation security network is fit for purpose. IATA and OSCE are natural partners in the security facilitation and border integrity fields.

"We share the objective of achieving a more efficient and effective aviation security system."
IATA noted that the aviation industry should streamline requirements for advance passenger information (API) with global standards, which include IATA and World Customs Organization guidelines.

It also features the provisions of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 9.
IATA currently works with around 265 airlines, representing 83% of air traffic worldwide.
